Star Destroyer Chase
Hey, it's another two-page spread acrylic painting in the Star Wars Sketchbook I started a month-and-a-half ago or so. This time, it's just after the opening crawl, with the introduction of the Tantive IV being chased by the Star Destroyer. When I first saw this scene in the theaters (yes, I'm so old I actually saw it in the theaters in 1977 when I was a kid).
The palette was basically the same as the last post: Titanium White, Carbon Black, Payne's Grey, Naples Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Raw Umber, King's Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Anthraquinone Blue, with just a dash of Naphthol Red Light.

STEP ONE: Here are the pencils, done with a Indigo Blue Colored Pencil on casein and blue-acrylic paint as the under-painting.

STEP TWO: Here's the first pass in acrylic paint, just to lay down something for the rest of the painting to stick to, as well as model some of the light and dark masses.
* * *
STEP THREE: And here's the finished painting. The Tantive IV was a little too big in the previous Step, so I shrank it down. And stars... painting lots and lots of stars.

Done with Acrylic Paint on 8-1/2" x 11" Stillman & Brin Mixed Media (140#) paper.
