Hey, hey!  I made it to the end of
"31 Days of HELL-O-Ween" 2023!

Although, ironically, this was the latest I posted a "31 Days of HELL-O-Ween" for this year.  In each of the previous years, I had several times where I didn't finish up my drawing or painting and get it posted until 10:00pm or so, and I think one time it was after 11:00pm.  So, dangerously close.  This year, however, I was able to keep up the the schedule and had them posted by 10:00am at the latest (well, except for this one, which is posted at 4:00pm), even though the actual paintings kept incriminating up in time to the point where I was spending an average of about 6 hours per painting.  

I will admit it's a lot of work and I take the "31 Days of HELL-O-Ween" embarrassingly serious.  Oh, well, it's great practice.  This year, most of 'em turned out not too bad; a few of them are actually better than OK; and there are also a few stinkers in the bunch that I am slightly embarrassed by.  Y'know, the usual.

STEP ONE:  In Clip Studio Paint, I created a 2,000px x 3,000px digital canvas and scribbled out the digital pencils.

STEP TWO:  And here are the digital inks.  I exported the digital inks as a .PNG file, which I then imported into Rebelle 6 to do the coloring.

STEP THREE:  Just for fun, here's the color plate which I did in Rebelle 6, which I then exported as another .PNG file, sized to fit under the Black Plate from Clip Studio Paint.

STEP FOUR:  In Clip Studio Paint, I imported the color plate and placed the black plate over top.  I tweaked a couple minor spots to add shadows to the Great Pumpkin and such and called it good enough.

Time for something a little more light and fun to start the countdown to the final week of "31 Days of HELL-O-Ween".  It's another post from "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown"--this time it's Lucy's costume of a witch mask and ghostly bedsheet.  I will admit I have a lot of nostalgia for The Great Pumpkin, having watched it yearly when I was a youngster (yes, kids, there was a time before VCR's and DVD's, or your Cartoon Networks, when you had only one chance per year to watch a cartoon special, or holiday-related show and you better hope you saw it or it was too bad 'til next year... Now THAT'S scary!).

I was very tempted just to do the simple, colored in pen-and-ink line drawing and call it done, but nnnoooooo, I just had to crosshatch, like, a billion lines.  When will I learn?  Onward to the final leg of this race toward the finish line!

STEP ONE:  In Clip Studio Paint, I created a 1,500px x 2,100px @ 300dpi canvas and quickly sketched out the digital pencils.

STEP TWO:  And here are the digital inks.  At first, I was thinking about doing a realistic style digital painting, but then thought about doing a highly detailed scratchboard effect...  Nah, how about a shadowed, digital pen-and-ink?  I finally settled on an inking style similar to Gahan Wilson or Robert Crumb with semi-dramatic lighting.

STEP THREE:  And here's the finished painting, with various layers of color added.

Day 30: It's the Great Pumpkin, 

Charlie Brown!

Hey, it's Charlie Brown's ghost--in this case, he's a REAL ghost!  He had trouble with scissors... and he got a rock!  Oh, darn it, I should have included some rocks around the ghost.  Oh, well.

This was supposed to be an easy one to do--a simple cheat.  Y'know, done in about 30 minutes... maybe an hour at most.  Instead, I updated to Painter 2020, so there was a lot of trying to get used to new brushes and whatnot.  I didn't even think to capture pics of the progress, so none of that for today.

Yeah, I'm a little slow sometimes... :-S
