31 Days of HELL-O-Ween 2023:
The Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
Elsa Lanchester as "The Bride of Frankenstein" is another movie I return to in this self-imposed challenge. Between the streaked, Marge Simpson hair and the perpetually startled look in her eyes, there is something compelling about her.
The movie which was always treated as a horror movie when I was a kid, upon watching it as an adult it leans so heavy into camp and almost reads as more of a comedy.
I couldn't decide if "The Bride of Frankenstein" works better with Caucasian skin tone or green skin tone, so I decided to cheat and do it in black-and-white. Well, Paynes Gray and Titanium White.

STEP ONE: Here is a quick outline done in Paynes Gray to suggest the general outline to figure out where everything was going to go on the page. I painted it on an 8-1/2" x 11" extra thick cardstock which was primed with a 50/50 mix of gesso and matte medium.

STEP TWO: And here's the first pass with Paynes Gray and Titanium White.

STEP THREE: It's the finished painting, done with lots and lots of back-and-forth pushing the darks and the shadows.

Done with Acrylic paint on 8-1/2" x 11" gessoed cardstock.
